A new, landmark statement from the United States National Academy of Sciences and the science academies of 12 other nations was recently released.  The statement, entitled Joint Science Academies’ Statement: Climate Change Adaptation and the Transition to a Low Carbon Society, highlights the mounting urgency and the need for upfront investment in adaptation strategies to avert the worst impacts of climate change on human and natural systems around the world.
