  16. Jen Fournelle

    Jen is the Campus Ecology Coordinator for National Wildlife Federation's Campus Ecology Program. Jen organizes and engages members in Chill Out: Campus Solutions to Global Warming, Campus Ecology's nationwide competition for solutions to global warming. She also works on our Greenforce Initiative, with community college partners in Virginia. During college, Jen studied abroad in the Andes Mountains of Ecuador for a semester. The students lived in grass huts and did research on frogs and spectacled bears. Jen was lucky enough to be present as they released a spectacled bear into the wild and took part in the tracking of it after its release. Jen graduated in 2005 with a B.S. in Wildlife Management from the University of New Hampshire.

  17. Jan Goldman-Carter

    Jan Goldman-Carter served as NWF Wetlands and Water Resources Counsel from 1987-1991 and returned in 2006 to manage the NWF campaign to restore Clean Water Act protections. As an environmental lawyer, she’s worked on wetlands issues across the country and in 1993 received the Environmental Protection Agency-Environmental Law Institute National Wetlands Award. Jan also served as a wetlands specialist with the EPA, Corps of Engineers, and Fish and Wildlife Service. In her spare time she enjoys canoeing, kayaking, birding and otherwise being in, on, and near the water.

  30. Neil Kagan

    Neil Kagan works to protect water quality in the Great Lakes and nationally as a Senior Counsel in the NWF's Great Lakes Regional Center. Before NWF, Neil practiced environmental and land use law in Oregon, both as a solo practitioner and with 1000 Friends of Oregon, a land use watchdog group. Throughout his career, Neil's work has protected forests, wetlands, rivers, the Great Lakes, and other natural resources. Neil is also an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor of Law at Michigan Law School, where he has served as Director of the Environmental Law Clinic since 1996.

    Joe Mendelson serves as NWF's Director of Global Warming Policy where he leads a team of legislative and policy professionals to develop and implement solutions to global warming. Before NWF, Joe was co-founder and legal director of the Center for Food Safety and International Center for Technology Assessment where he developed and initiated the first legal case in the U.S. seeking the regulation of greenhouse gas emissions under the Clean Air Act. He served as co-counsel throughout the case as it was argued successfully before the U.S. Supreme Court and resulted in the landmark ruling of Massachusetts v. EPA.

  48. Michael Murray

    Michael is Staff Scientist with the National Wildlife Federation’s Great Lakes office, with over two decades’ experience working on Great Lakes science and science-policy issues. In addition to extensive work on sources, cycling, impacts and policies around toxic chemicals (following his PhD work in environmental chemistry at the University of Wisconsin), Michael has had increasing experience in other areas, including science-policy aspects of aquatic invasive species, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and prioritization and other issues in Great Lakes restoration and protection. He has served on over two dozen technical advisory and other committees, and has authored or co-authored numerous papers, book chapters, and reports in various environmental science and science-policy areas.

Before joining NWF in 2011, she worked on sustainability and climate change programs for Xanterra Parks & Resorts in Yellowstone as its Director of Environmental Affairs. Prior to her role in Yellowstone, for nine years she served as Vice President/CFO for the non-profit Yosemite Association.     Marc Smith is a life-long conservationist growing up in the woods and waters of Virginia. As NWF’s Senior Policy Manager, Marc directs NWF’s water policy programs in the Great Lakes. He is based out of the Great Lakes Regional Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and also directs conservation partnerships with our state affiliate and other key organizations and stakeholders in Illinois. Marc has extensive experience lobbying on public land issues with NWF in Washington, D.C. and was a Senior Legislative Assistant for two Members of Congress. Marc received his B.A. in History with a concentration in Political Science from West Virginia University. He is the proud father of two spirited children. Marc spends most of his free-time enjoying the Great Lakes with his family, fly-fishing, bird hunting, and playing/coaching soccer.

    Felice is associate director of NWF's global warming solutions program. In addition to strategic direction, she leads several initiatives including NWF's dirty fuels campaign and the Fair Climate Project. Before her current efforts, Felice directed NWF's national mercury campaign and spent three years at the Natural Resources Defense Council as policy director for the Clean Air Network. She has worked on clean air and toxics policy at the state and federal level for more than 18 years and has served on several federal and local advisory committees, testified before Congress, and published numerous articles.

    Frank Szollosi works on policy issues to accelerate the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources, including offshore wind and electric vehicles. Frank also supports the Federal Connections Task Force for RE-AMP, a network of 120 organizations across eight Midwestern states working to advance climate and energy policy. From 2003 until 2010 he served as an elected member of Toledo (Ohio) City Council. Frank is completing a Master's of Science in Natural Resources and Environment and a Master's of Public Policy at the University of Michigan - focusing on cities and their adaptation to the impacts of climate change. He received a Bachelors of Science degree in Political Science from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.

    Garrit Voggesser is NWF’s National Director for Tribal Partnerships. He works with tribes nationwide to protect wildlife and habitat. He has worked with tribes on bison conservation since 1999.     Beth is the Community Outreach Regional Coordinator for NWF's Great Lakes Regional Center. She helps organize support around protecting communities, natural resources and wildlife. She has been the lead organizer for the Great Lakes Regional Centers response to the Kalamazoo River oil spill, and helps coordinate large regional events like the Great American Backyard Campout, lobby days and the annual Healing Our Waters Conference.

    Maura Wood works on NWF’s Coastal Louisiana campaign to protect and restore Louisiana’s disappearing coastline. She engages with stakeholders to understand their concerns, share scientific information, address obstacles to progress, and move restoration projects through planning to construction. She is inspired by the beauty and complexity of the Mississippi River delta, the deltaic wetlands, and the people who live and work in them.
